Mr. Sharp graduated from Wabash College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in Psychology in 1999. He went on to attend the University of Indianapolis and graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Teaching. From 2002 to 2005, Mr. Sharp taught 8th and 9th grade Language Arts in Indianapolis. He left the classroom in 2005 for five years, working as a stay-at-home father. Upon his return, he taught 10th and 11th grade English, including Intensified and Advanced Placement courses, in Arlington Public Schools in Virginia from 2010 to 2016. While in Arlington, Mr. Sharp also taught Senior Project, sponsored various clubs, and chaired the school’s Poetry Out Loud competition.
As an English teacher at BASIS Independent McLean, Mr. Sharp’s goals are to inspire an enthusiasm for reading and writing, to develop strong critical thinking skills, and to empower each student to step outside of his or her comfort zone. He is looking forward to working with students who are as passionate and motivated to learn as he is.
Mr. Sharp’s hobbies include: reading, music, spending time with his family and enjoying all that Washington, D.C. has to offer. He is vegan, a bibliophile, and his favorite author is Ernest Hemingway.
