Ms. Cheng was born and raised in New York. She graduated from SUNY Stony Brook University in 2008 with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Child and Family Studies. In the summer of 2009, she studied abroad in England at the Institute of Education and Oxford University with a focus on literacy. In 2010, Ms. Cheng graduated from New York University with her Master of Arts degree in Childhood Education and Special Education.
Ms. Cheng started out her teaching career working as a Learning Interventionist in Harlem and the Bronx. She worked for a national learning center as an Assistant Director in Park Slope, Brooklyn, helping spearhead its Special Education program. From 2014–2017, she taught Kindergarten and grade 1 at PAVE Red Hook in Brooklyn and served as the Grade Team Lead in her final two years.
Ms. Cheng is thrilled to join the team as the grade 2 Learning Expert Teacher. Her goal is to create a safe and collaborative learning environment where her students are not afraid to take risks, will ask questions, and will feel challenged. She is excited to learn and grow alongside her students!
When not at school, Ms. Cheng loves traveling abroad with her family, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with her nephew, Aydin.
