Chinese Investment and Aid in Africa

Mar 02, 2020

Hello and welcome! My name is Kareem and I am a senior at BASIS Independent McLean with an interest in international relations and economics. Currently, I am on an Amtrak on my way to the Global Research Institute at the College of William and Mary where I will be conducting my internship. While I do not know the specific duties of my internship yet, I do know that I will be working on a research team. This research will be focused on learning more about Chinese investment in Africa through analyzing public and private data sets, publications and other sources.

I have been interested in Chinese investment and aid in Africa for nearly two years now. I was first introduced to this subject when I read an Economist article on the subject. Instantly, I was fascinated by the complexity and importance of the issue, but more-so how there was so little coverage on an issue that impacted billions of lives. When I was given the opportunity to choose my topic for my senior project, it seemed only natural I would select this subject. I am not sure where this road will take me, but I am sure that wherever it goes I will be able to learn a lot and have fun along the way.

I hope to see you next time as I update you on my first week on the job!

I can send you the URL, but you will need to have a subscription in order to view it. However, when I come back home I can try and find the physical copy and hand it to you in person.
