Gratitude & Appreciation: The Human Side of Business, Doing the Right Thing, & Rising to the Occasion

Mar 21, 2020

Hello all,

I came to &pizza to learn about applying analytics in the business world, and, thankfully, I certainly have. But this week, my most important learning has been about the human side of business.

I am pleased to report that &pizza is giving all employees sick leave (whether it is due to closed schools or ill family members); 14-Day and Health and Safety Pay if diagnosed with, exposed to, or suspected of having COVID-19; unity pay in the form of a $1 increase in hourly wages; $5 Lyft rides to and from work; and financial assistance in the event of mass transit disruption. Moreover, any person who works at a hospital in any capacity is eligible for free pizza with the presentation of a valid hospital badge. The idea is that hospital workers should be able to focus on the epidemic at hand that they are courageously fighting without having to worry about dinner preparation or costs. I am proud to contribute by spending my days, nights, and weekend analyzing and validating thousands of hospital-worker submissions to give them the free pizza that they deserve. And, of course, I am proud to be part of a team and company that is not solely profit-driven but rather driven by doing the right thing and rising to the occasion.

With much gratitude & appreciation for the hospital workers and everyone else combatting the coronavirus,

P.S. Stay tuned for a stat of the week in upcoming posts.

Tad, I think that it is really cool that your internship site is so socially aware and that they have let you contribute to their effort. Along with building your data science and analytics skills, you seem to be learning lots about being a great global citizen, which is something that is just as (if not more) valuable! Keep up the excellent work.

Thanks for the kind comment. I totally agree with you about the importance of being a “great global citizen.” I am enjoying helping out and look forward to continuing to both help and learn!
