This week, I began the data analysis part of my internship and familiarized myself further with Stata. I’ve learned how to create new variables, organize data, and complete some simple calculations. I’m excited to continue learning the program over the course of the internship. Unfortunately, due to confidentiality reasons, I cannot go into any detail about the data I am analyzing or the conclusions I am making from it. I have also gotten to meet with and learn from several other research analysts at the CFPB, in addition to my advisors. Overall, everyone has been very welcoming and helpful.
In regards to my independent project, this week I finished reading all of the sources directly related to my topic that I have found thus far. This has included sources on the timing of paycheck, government aid, and bonus distribution, as well as time preferences and hyperbolic consumption. I am currently in the process of organizing said sources and finding as many connections between them as possible, a process I hope to complete by the end of this week. I have also begun reading, collecting, and analyzing those sources that are more loosely connected to my topic. Next week I will, hopefully, be able to share with you all some of the findings from these articles as I finish reading and consolidating them.
